Keeping Our Students Healthy During Flu Season

Submitted by, Allison Carr, Wyndcroft School Nurse

The health and safety of our students and staff is a primary concern at The Wyndcroft School. As the full-time school nurse, I have many jobs. Of course, I speak to students every day who don't feel their best. I also teach Health classes for grades 1-8 and sit on a number of school committees.

I receive many questions from parents and students about the upcoming flu season. Prevention for this illness includes:

  • Washing hands or using hand sanitizer after coughing or sneezing
  • Coughing or sneezing into a tissue or sleeve
  • Keeping your hands away from your mouth, nose, and eyes
  • Keeping a student at home when they are sick, especially with a fever

To keep up prevention efforts at school, Wyndcroft has these daily practices already in place:

  • Hand sanitation stations upon entering the computer lab and the cafeteria line
  • Hand-washing reminders in student bathrooms
  • Tissues and hand sanitizers readily available in each classroom
  • Disinfectant wipes available to clean surfaces in each classroom

Wyndcroft families can do their part at home to keep students healthy as well. Stay in contact with your pediatrician with any concerns that you have about your child's health. Together, we can keep Wyndcroft a healthy, learning environment.
