Reading Fun Fact
If you drive through the Reading area, you will undoubtedly notice the red lights of The Pagoda above the town. Located atop Mt. Penn, The Pagoda is an historical landmark that has served as a shining beacon for Greater Reading for more than 100 years. This out-of-place and yet extraordinary building has an unforgettable view and is a comforting sight for many, especially the red glow of lights at night. Did you know that before the days of radio, the lights of The Pagoda flashed as signals to the people of Reading? Morse Code was used to direct fireman, promote fundraising campaigns and even give results of sporting events. The Code was based on the lights - a white light was a dash, while a red light was a dot.
