Dear Wyndcroft Community,
As you saw from Gail’s letter to the community, the 2020-2021 school year will be Gail’s final year as the Head of School at The Wyndcroft School. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I want to personally thank Gail for her leadership and unwavering strength and grace throughout her years at Wyndcroft. Under her leadership, The Wyndcroft School successfully completed the Creating a Campus capital campaign, which dramatically improved the physical spaces where our children learn. The breadth of what our children learn has also been enhanced under Gail’s leadership. Wyndcroft Unplugged and the technology integration curriculum, now beloved staples of the Wyndcroft experience, are relatively recent innovations that were championed by Gail. As I’m sure you will agree, The Wyndcroft School has benefited tremendously from Gail’s passion and commitment to our mission over the years.
The Wyndcroft School will begin our search for a new Head of School immediately. Oscar Guerrero P ’18 and Maria Shields P ’18, ’20, ‘24 have generously agreed to lead the School through this effort. Over the course of the next few weeks we will be composing the complete search committee and will establish a Head of School section on our website which will serve as an information hub throughout the search process. We are committed to conducting a fair, deliberate and transparent search process, and we look forward to keeping you informed throughout the entirety of the search. There will be several opportunities for you, our Wyndcroft School community members, to share your input and we look forward to your engagement throughout. We expect to have a new Head of School in place no later than July 1, 2021 for the 2021 – 2022 school year.
After interviewing several highly qualified search firms, we have retained Carney Sandoe & Associates to assist us in this process. The firm is nationally recognized as a leader in recruiting Heads and other senior administrators at independent schools around the country. We will be partnering with Bob Vitalo and Burke Zalosh, both of whom have extensive experience in Head searches, including for leading Pre-K-8 independent schools in Pennsylvania. You will have an opportunity to meet with them in the early fall during their site visit and we look forward to sharing more details about their visit at a later date.
We are grateful that Gail will remain Head of School for the 2020 – 2021 school year to ensure a smooth transition. We are all faced with so many other uncertainties in our lives at this time, yet each of us should be comforted by the strong foundation that Gail is leaving behind and on which we will continue to build. Our challenging academic programs and spirit of Non Sibi provide a firm foundation and cultivate a sense of gratitude and responsibility in our students. Year after year, our graduates emerge confident, poised, and prepared to succeed at the best secondary schools and beyond.
On behalf of the entire Board of Trustees, we congratulate Gail on her retirement, wish her well on her life’s next adventure and we will celebrate her many accomplishments at a later date in the school year.
We welcome the opportunity to partner with the administration, faculty, staff, parents and other friends of Wyndcroft as we begin this next chapter of our history.
President, Wyndcroft Board of Trustees
