On February 1, 2025, the Wyndcroft community lost a beloved member of our family. Mr. Willie Thorpe Jr., who served as a custodian at Wyndcroft for 55 years, was more than a dedicated worker; he was the heart and soul of our school. His unwavering kindness, tireless work ethic, and deep sense of service left an indelible mark on generations of students, teachers, and staff.
To know Mr. Willie was to know warmth, humility, and generosity. Each morning, he greeted students with a smile, a kind word, and the steady presence of someone who truly cared. He took pride in his work; not just in maintaining the school, but in uplifting the spirits of everyone around him. No task was ever too small, no request too great. He led with quiet dignity, embodying the true spirit of Non Sibi, not for oneself.
For over five decades, Mr. Willie was more than just a custodian; he was a mentor, a role model, and a friend. Whether he was sharing a word of encouragement, lending a helping hand, or simply making someone’s day brighter with his presence, he gave of himself fully and without hesitation. His kindness was boundless, his integrity unshakable, and his impact immeasurable.
Mr. Willie retired in 2019, and to honor his legacy, Wyndcroft proudly established the Mr. Willie Thorpe Good Citizen Award, a recognition given each year to a student who exemplifies the same selflessness and integrity that he modeled every day. His spirit of service and love will continue to inspire us, reminding us all of the power of a life lived for others.
Though he is no longer with us in body, his legacy will live on in the halls he walked, the lives he touched, and the community he helped build. Rest peacefully, Mr. Willie. Your impact will live on in every life you touched.
