News from the Head of School: 1-to-1 Chromebooks

Wyndcroft's Newest Technology Initiative

We are very pleased to announce The Wyndcroft School's one-to-one initiative for Chromebooks in our upper school. Thanks to the generous support of our parents and friends at last year's Extravaganza & Auction, we have purchased enough Chromebooks for each student in grades 5 through 8 to have their own device. We are all excited to have this tool readily available for daily use.

Chromebooks offer our students:

1.      Ability to work with a full keyboard

2.      Full access to the web and not just apps

3.      Easy collaboration through the Google Ecosystem

The Chromebooks also add a layer of responsibility for our upper school students. Students in 5th and 6th grade will have a designated storage and charging station for their device with easy access throughout the day, fully charging the unit during evening hours. These students are responsible for stowing their Chromebooks in the charging stations and making sure their Chromebooks are ready for the next day.

For students in grades 7th and 8th grade, a bit more responsibility is added. They will be allowed to take their personal unit home each day as well as being responsible for keeping their devices charged and ready for use during school hours. This means an extra level of care is needed as students will be carrying their Chromebook to and from school and not just around Wyndcroft’s halls.

The rules and guidelines for using the chrome books as well as all the technology resources in the school have been reviewed with the students.  In addition, parents are encouraged to have their own conversations with students regarding care and use of the devices.
