Summer Reading Tips and Tricks

Summer is a tremendous time to develop your child's love of reading!
This summer we encourage you to:

  • Carve out a time in your day for a "family reading time." If your children see you reading for pleasure at the same time they are reading, they will know it is a fun activity and will begin to model your behavior.
  • If your child is too young to read on their own, read out loud to them. This will create lasting memories for you and your child.
  • Besides the books on their summer reading list, encourage your child to choose their own reading material over the summer. There is plenty to choose from: fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, magazines, etc.
  • For additional fun, take a look at the summer reading programs at your local library. There are a lot of great, free events and activities all over the region.
