Even though school is out, that doesn’t mean that the fun and learning have to end. After the last day of school, the summer time has many options for children to fill their time. Our favorite is Summer Camp! With a wide-range of activities, summer camp allows students to learn and grow in new ways. Here are a few of our favorite reasons to head off to camp this summer:

Physical activity. During the school year, children spend quite a bit of time sitting behind a desk. Even with recess, gym classes and sports, there is quite a bit of sitting. At summer camp, it is the complete opposite. Students are up and active, spending a good portion of the day on the move.

Independent thinking. At Wyndcroft’s summer camp, campers get to decide what activities they take part in. With a menu of varied activities, students are given choices for how they spend their day. It’s all up to them. This allows students the chance to make choices for their time in a safe, contained environment, giving them a sense of freedom and independence that a more structured schedule could not offer. 

Combat the summer slump. Without regular school classes, students can lose up to two months of learning over the summer. Whether it is math, reading or spelling, all of these skills can take a hit without stimulation. Summer camp activities help to keep students’ minds active and learning, even if they don’t realize they are doing it.

Explore new communities. Wyndcroft’s summer camp brings together new sets of children from across different schools and grade levels. For all campers, this offers the chance to meet new people or spend time with other children who they might not get to interact with on a daily basis. By the end of camp, a new community is formed through shared experiences.

Screen-free time. Unplugging from technology has so many benefits for children. It allows them to be present in the real world and not trapped in a digital story. Children learn how to talk and engage with others without hiding behind a keyboard or hand-held controller.
