Our second graders are continuing to build and develop the skills introduced in previous years. They come to school to learn and have fun. Second graders participate in our Writer's Workshop and become real authors. They have the chance to publish their stories and celebrate their accomplishments. In math, they problem solve and think outside the box. They discover that trial and error produces more learning opportunities and creates spirited discussions among peers about the "hows" and "whys" of math. As readers, second graders are exposed to various literature rich content with our Journeys program and guided reading lessons. Students focus on decoding, comprehension and fluency skills during whole group and individualized instruction. On several occasions, second graders participate in a multitude of public speaking events including the second grade play, whole school assembly, publisher's party and in-class presentations.
